VIRUSEXUALIS PROJECT

Human Figure as Disease & Virus Host

Virusexualis Project investigates the notion of viewing the human figure at the level of isolated organs & cellular structure, per a substrata of bioforms that may call to mind uncanny similarities to various tropes consistent with certain modes of Modernist painting, e.g. Abstract Expressionism, Systemism, Lyrical Abstraction, Color Field painting...These macroscopic & electroscopic images of organs & human tissue function as digital paintings that are in this case, derived from sites that have experienced infection via sexually transmitted disease or virus. Thirteen individual STDs are represented here as triptychs; each acquired from a mass of images displaying a specific illness. The intention is to aestheticize the abject insidiousness that may result from sexual activity; while also considering the possible effects of it on ones own health and mortality...
